About Deirdre

Hi, there! I am what you might call a serial entrepreneur (five businesses across four industries).

I am the founder of Capsho, creator of Viralocity Marketing and author of “The Traffic Formula”.

These labels and accomplishments are bizarre to me because at my core, I am an introvert who has battled insecurities and self judgement to get here.

I have found my inner remarkability and want  to help others do the same.

My journey has been filled with
ups and downs…

Where I started...
My story is one of many transformations. My parents moved to Sydney, Australia from Malaysia leaving everything they knew and loved to give me and my brother a life of greater stability and better opportunities.

I carved out a very successful and secure corporate career but something was amiss in that safety my parents wanted for me.. Deep inside, I was restless and wanted more.

So my then partner, now husband, threw all of it away and jumped feet first into a brand new business we had been excitedly been working on.

In 2013, we opened our brand new business, The Choc Pot.
We built and they didn't come...
Our initial excitement was short-lived. Within months of opening The Choc Pot, we nearly lost it and our life’s savings. It turned out that just because you build it, does not mean they will actually come! In other words, you have to focus on sales and marketing in order to make your business successful.

We were completely deflated from not having any traffic or customers. Just being in the store suffocated me and I would find every reason to leave for even the smallest errand.

I tossed and turned all night and felt the crushing weight of rent, wages and other expenses.

Something had to change. I had to find another way.
Moving forward...
Inspired by online businesses like Dropbox that were going viral at the time, I decided there had to be a way to apply what they were doing.

Our competitors were big names with deep pockets and well-known brands so we had to market ourselves differently (on a shoestring budget!)

Joining the dots together on what they were doing with this new "guerilla-style" marketing, we designed and launched our first Viralocity campaign!

Aaaaand it failed!
Back to the drawing board...
The impatient Type A in me was EXTREMELY frustrated but I was also very determined to make this work.

In hindsight, I am so grateful for this phase. It laid the groundwork for me to use data to figure out what wasn't working and try again strategically rather than trying with just blind faith and pure grit.

And after our third time, we finally cracked it!

I'll never forget it.

That time we realized we made it.

Our first packed night turning into regular lines out the door.

The fist notification telling us we'd been mentioned on social media by someone other than our friends, turning into thousands of daily mentions.
And the rest was history...
It really was!

My early instinct to apply what online businesses like Dropbox were doing to my (very offline) hospitality business turned into a strange and wonderful special power.

After expanding The Choc Pot to 5 locations, I also founded other businesses in different industries and implemented Viralocity marketing to grow them quickly.
Full circle..
My full circle moment came when my parents told me they were moving back to Malaysia.

Their ambitions for me had been realized. I had created financial freedom for myself and a life I absolutely loved!

They still text me every day telling me how they proud they are of me.

I know this feeling of extreme fulfillment is possible for everyone. We truly can have it all, whatever that means to each of us.

And it has become my mission to help others on the same path.
